Difference Between 200 and 300 Hours Yoga Teacher Training

We tell our students when they do their 200 hour vinyasa and yin yoga teacher training in Bali Indonesia, that it’s like getting your beginners license.

A 200 hours vinyasa and yin yoga teacher training certification is a foundational program.  It will give you a good understanding of a variety of topics so you can start teaching.

Difference Between 200 and 300 Hours Yoga Teacher Training

We tell our students when they do their 200 hours vinyasa and yin yoga teacher training in Bali Indonesia, that it’s like getting your beginners license but then you have to go out and actually do lots of hours of driving to become a good driver.  It’s the same with a yoga teacher training.  A 200 hours vinyasa and yin yoga teacher training certification is a foundational program.  It will give you a good understanding of a variety of topics such as anatomy and physiology, the history and philosophy of yoga, how to sequence, theme and cue a class and you’ll learn to break down key postures so that you can teach them safely.  You will live, breath and practice yoga for 200 hours!  But then your real experience comes from teaching all that you have learnt in the training.  This is when you start to apply the knowledge.

A 300 hours training is for people who have already completed their 200 hours vinyasa and yin yoga teacher training in Bali.  It is for anyone who is really passionate about teaching and wants to take their knowledge to the next level or specialize in a particular yoga style.  You will learn more advanced physiology and anatomy in a 300-hour training, practice more physically demanding poses, delve deeper into meditation and philosophy and gain more understanding of teaching methodology.  Once you have your 300-hour qualification it tells studios that you have an advanced and deep understanding of yoga and can offer more technical classes and workshops. 300-hour trainings tend to be more expensive than a 200 hours vinyasa and yin yoga teacher training as there is an additional 100 hours or training than what you would do in a 200 hour.

Some yoga schools offer a 500-hour qualification which means you do a 200 hours yoga teacher training certification then a 300-hour training straight after it.  While this may save time, at Inner Yoga Training we wouldn’t recommend it.  There is already a lot of information delivered in 200 hours and if you start your 300 hours straight away it doesn’t give you the time and space to absorb and integrate what you’ve learned.  As mentioned earlier you learn so much from actually teaching classes and seeing a variety of different bodies in poses.  You will learn more about adjustments and anatomy while teaching.  It’s putting your knowledge into practice which is invaluable and can’t always be taught through theory.  Once you have gained experience teaching classes you can bring that to a 300 hours training and be ready to dive deeper.

If you are looking to start your yoga teacher journey, our next 200 hours vinyasa and yin yoga certification beings on 7 August.
